New Voices / New Work
Mr. Singer & His Demons - by Miriam Hoffman and Rena Borow - a drama

This project deals with the turmoil of Nobel Laureate Isaac Bashevis Singer as he sits at the end of his life in his condominium on Miami Beach. His brain is consumed by the dementia of advanced Alzheimers disease, and his mind wanders back and forth from reality to the memories which shaped his life and his work. Within the framework of a journalist’s interview, he remembers his family as his fictional characters come to life. They begin to hound him with questions, as we see the parallels between his dysfunctional family and his characterizations. This ‘Unauthorized’ dramatic biography of Isaac Bashevis Singer explores the last hours of his life in Miami Beach. As Isaac struggles to keep his sanity, the demons in his own life come back to confront and comfort him.
